Why You Shouldn’t leave 5 Year Olds Unsupervised

Did you know . . . a hidden profile ain’t hidden?

Shocked Monkey

I always check the Second Life Official blog – several times a day actually, just in case I missed something important. Today’s entry on search problems, caught my eye. Not being able to find certain places in the search engine is definitely a problem, but what about being able to find things you shouldn’t be able to find?

I have run across the issue that Linden Labs (LL) talks about – missing places, even missing people (my experience has been while looking for people.) Thing is, that any determined person will check out whatever options they can to find someone and I’m no different. That’s how I found out about “it.”

Anyways… to make a long story short . . .

You are supposed to be able to hide your profile in the search engine, but anyone can go and plug your name in the “All (Old)” search and find the profile in question.

I won’t ramble on more. I just thought a heads up might be in order.

Let’s hope next time the apes are pounding on the grid they fix that, huh?

“I’m just buuuuuuusy”

That’s what Scribs’ (Scribbles) motto is.

Well actually her whole motto is: “I’m not bad, I’m just buuuuuuuusy.” ;-)

She’s been pretty busy lately, but a tad on the grumpy side as her book borrowing antics finally caught up to her and her wings have been clipped for a little while. Really, all it means is she has lots of time to figure out what she is going to do next. Not that she has to think too hard … seems trouble just finds a 5 year old and not the other way around.

On my front, the Doodle front… Things have been ticking along at a slower pace. *Sigh* No pranks in the works. Even a pranker has to give that a rest once in a while. I enjoyed a quiet Christmas in SL. Exchanged a few gifts among friends, but by far the best gift has been the gift of friendship.

I have added a few new animals to the beach – all gifts. A cat which has been placed in the house, and a seal on the beach. Both are really cute and add just a little bit of character to the beach.

Last but not least… I wanna leave you all with a music pick as it’s been a while since I’ve done that. The following song is one that Ari often plays at the Vortex and it’s quickly become one of my favorites.

Bubbly
Colbie Caillat

I’ve been awake for a while now
You’ve got me feelin’ like a child now
Cause every time I see your bubbly face
I get the tingles in a silly place

It starts in my toes
And I crinkle my nose
Where ever it goes
I always know
That you make me smile
Please stay for a while now
Just take your time
Where ever you go

The rain is falling on my window pane
But we are hiding in a safer place
Under cover staying dry and warm
You give me feelings that I adore

They start in my toes
Make me crinkle my nose
Where ever it goes
I always know
That you make me smile
Please stay for a while now
Just take your time
Where ever you go

What am I gonna say
When you make me feel this way
I just- mmm…

It starts in my toes
Makes me crinkle my nose
Where ever it goes
I always know
That you make me smile
Please stay for a while now
Just take your time
Where ever you go

Dada dada dadada dada dum….

Mmm mm…

I’ve been asleep for a while now
You tuck me in just like a child now
‘Cause every time you hold me in your arms
I’m comfortable enough to feel your warmth

It starts in my soul
And I lose all control
When you kiss my nose
The feeling shows
Cause you make me smile baby
Just take your time now
Holdin’ me tight

Where ever, where ever, where ever you go
Where ever, where ever, where ever you go

Where ever you go
I always know
Cause you make me smile
Even just for a while

Merry Christmas to all my Friends

I’m not good with the ushy gushy stuff…. cracking a joke is more my style but . . .

I’d like to take a few moments to wish all my friends in SL a very festive season.  Some of you may celebrate Christmas, some may celebrate Hanukkah,  others may commerate a celebration that I am not familiar with, some may in fact choose to not celebrate anything at all.  Regardless of who you are ….

Thank you for being a part of my life.  You are all a truly special bunch of people and I count my blessings in realizing how fortunate I am to have friends like you.

Best wishes & Lots of Hugs,

Doodle

I didn’t sit there!

“Patience is a virtue… “

Got told that lots as a kid. Relearning it in SL.

Back in early November I had the idea for a very funny prank… and set about putting it into play. It was an awful lot of work and was actually the start of me venturing down the scripting path.

The idea? Make someone’s chair one which TP’s them instead of “sitting them.”

Well, LOL… I did just that. Of course, I could have been really mischievous and had them tp out into mid air or into a nearby pool, but I chose the middle road… or er… the middle of a roof actually.

Hehehe.

Crafting the prank took a little longer than I thought. I had to find the script (the first one I used kept screwing up the rotation of the prim the teleport script was in) and then I had to design an invisible “sleeve” prim that sat over the original chair. Several reasons for this:

  • The chair would not have to be modifiable
  • Would be able to easily fix (aka… REMOVE) later

Designing the chair was interesting.. it stretched or.. umm… forced me to also dabble a bit in building. Also taught me when to use an invisible texture versus making an object invisible through the object properties (making the object completely invisible made it so you could click right through the “sleeve” and select the proper “sit” for the chair.)

It is the nittpicky details I think that make any good practical joke work and this one was no exception to that rule. Someone said to me “It’s an awful lot of work for just a joke.” Uh huh.. and sooo worth it. So the details included labelling the “sleeve” exactly the same as the original and making the “sleeve” prim out of several prims to closely match the original chair shape so when clicked on it looked the same.

Setting the joke in place was fun… I even got “logged in” on while setting it up the first time. My earlier technical difficulties (script screwing up the rotation of the prim) caused me to take much longer than intended. I had bricks in my shorts as I teleported out. Thank goodness it takes people a while to actually register if someone is actually on their radar or not… made it so I could go back later and place the prank back in place with the script in it that worked the way I wanted it to.

Last but not least… a discussion with the victim.. errr… I mean ‘target of the joke about pranks. I was setting up a “welcome back” prank for someone who had been on holidays and part of the discussion was whether or not I had any other jokes laying about. All I said was that if you were gonna be the target of a good joke by me, you wouldn’t know what had hit ya… you’d never see it coming. LOL. At that point they started *looking around* to see if they could see anything (they were joking) but I was sooooo worried they were actually going to check the “objects” tab in “About Land.” Needless to say, they didn’t.

Well… yesterday, the prank finally played out. And… as a testament to how well it was done, someone else got blamed… *snicker*… but I’m an honorable person.. I did eventually send the recipient of the prank a nice little prezzie that included a copy of the invisible “sleeve” and a notecard with a “Gotcha message” and a few pictures attached.

As a parting comment to any who have been past errr… recipients of my pranks and any who should receive one in the future — umm… it’s ‘cuz I like ya that I share them with ya. LOL.
