Music Favorites

A recent song from one of my newer CD … Juno Awards 2007. Now, as most people should know by now (and in case you don’t,) I call Canada my home. The Juno awards are the Canadian version of the Grammy’s. Sooo… this album offers a delicious dose of all Canadian music, and because it is a compilation of award winners, the cream of the crop.

No special significance with this song – I just love the song.. a funky rhythm, very kewl acoustic guitar (a personal favorite) and a sweet little melody. Very catchy as a whole…

Bridge to Nowhere

by Sam Roberts

Another day breaks and the last one’s gone
You dig deep just to carry on
Your debt’s paid off but it don’t feel gone
So you slip out the back and you’re moving on

I can never figure out how to make a case
That this don’t amount to a fall from grace
She wants to know can I replace
This tired wool with satin lace

She says you’re on a bridge to nowhere and you’re gettin’ there fast
Put it in the past, put it in the past
If this is a race then I hope you come last
You’re on a bridge to nowhere and you’re gettin’ there fast

Pressure builds till it breaks the dome
You can build a house you can’t build a home
And it’s a fool who believes love is bred in the bone
And there’s no guarantees that you won’t get stoned
Yeah, I’m a fool who believed love is bred in the bone
And there are no guarantees that I won’t get stoned

Says you’re on a bridge to nowhere and you’re gettin’ there fast
Put it in the past, put it in the past
If this is a race then I hope you come last
You’re on a bridge to nowhere and you’re gettin’ there fast

I don’t know where it leads, oh no
All I know is that I don’t wanna breathe this chemical breeze
No more

So another day breaks and the last one’s gone
You dig deep just to carry on
Your debt’s paid off but it don’t feel gone
So you slip out the back and you’re moving on

She says you’re on a bridge to nowhere and you’re gettin’ there fast
Put it in the past, put it in the past
If this is a race then I hope you come last
You’re on a bridge to nowhere and you’re gettin’ there fast

Man, I’m boring!

Another quick post…

“Man, I’m boring!”

Haven’t been able to spend much time on Second Life (SL.)  Real Life (RL) responsibilities have been creating a little crunch on my time.

On the humor front, I did manage to send a ’special present’ to a few close friends in SL.  Love ya guys… when that parcel was opened, it spewed forth candy and other yummy things too.  ;-)

Other stuff… what the heck else have I done that is interesting?  Oh.. got to spend some time with Duncan exploring a very nice botanical garden.  People might think that is boring, but truth is… not everything in SL has to be of the “Stimulate my brain so much I can’t stand it” ilk.  Nope… sometimes something relaxing is just what is in order.  During that visit, I came a cross a noob who still has a few lessons to learn in SL… no… in internet ettiquette.  I am usually quite happy to spend time chatting with a noob and will often accept their offer of friendship – I know how important it was for me to have people who were friendly when I first joined SL (thanks friends!)  However, it did not take long for this person to ask me how old I am (I hedged with my usual answer… “Old enough to know better, young enough to do it again.”  Not getting a specific answer, the person pushed the envelope and asked me for my phone number…. LOL … as if!  I promptly let this person know that asking for that kind of information (as well as real name, and specifics of where someone lives) will lose them more friends than it gets.  After they crashed, I split the scene where we had been chatting, and immediately removed them from my friends list.  There are a few things which creep me out, and asking for my phone number is pretty much near the top of my list.

Well… that’s almost it.  I got a special treat last night – Ari was dj’ing someplace and I wasn’t able to go there.  She did, however, see fit to play me the muppet song… you know, the one where animal plays the drums.  I would tell you the name of the song, but umm… I can’t remember it at the moment and am way too lazy to look it up.  She also played “If I had a brain” for a mutual friend whom we both like to tease.  Kewlies!

Alright.  That’s officially it.. looking forward to spending a little more time on SL tomorrow.  Hope to get to chat with some of my SL friends – maybe even spend some time with them.  :)

Catch ya on the flip side.

Geez… it’s been a while

Okay… I don’t have a whole lot to talk about on the Second Life (SL) front, but heck… I kept looking at the blog going… “Hmmm… that page is looking rather stale.

So a few quick notes to share…

A while back, Zen and I, kind of went our separate ways in SL. Not friendship, nor bro and sis wise, but more I moved to Chuang, and he stayed at Sammy Springs. He liked Sammy Springs, but I hated the low prims that were available for use. I guess brothers and sisters still need their own space, and SL isn’t much different. Well… I got a real surprise last week when Zen decided to rent the parcel of land behind me in Chuang. Okay… so now, brother is back trying to pretend he ain’t watching what I do, as brothers always do… hehe… think he’s trying to keep me out of trouble? Good luck with that Zen!

Zen’s moving in meant a few changes on the property front… because his parcel was adjacent to mine, it made sense to terraform the side of the property that met up with his. A little messing around… no… a lot of messing around and there is now beach running along the two full sides of my property that is against water. Seems Zen took a little while to figure out what he wanted to do terraforming wise, but it’s hopefully all settled now. Better be! If I come back to my side of the property looking like there’s been a continental shift in the plates again, I’ll be taking away his bulldozer and shovel.

There’s been a few other changes to the property including taking down the privacy blinds and setting up some trees instead. When I first put up the privacy blind it was because the neighbor had one too… they moved out last month, so I had completed the privacy blind all the way around the property. Umm… seems though that I had forgotten the covenant for the island included no barriers to prevent people from walking around, and mine were not set to phantom, meaning that well… I had a barrier. Sorry ’bout that Frodon! In looking at turning the blind to phantom, it was decided that it would be best to take it down to preserve the character of the island. So, it’s gone – in it’s place I put up some low prim trees… just to add the illusion of some privacy (there ain’t really any in SL, right?) … and once Zen moved in, I took down the trees bordering our land and let him put up some palm trees. Looks way better now. I also added a few fish in the lagoon/bay … just to give it more of a .. lagoon/bay feeling. Shadow and I talked about putting fish in that nibble, but decided that it wouldn’t be good for skinny dipping ;-) The new lagoon, by the way, has made for some awesome swimming!

Tim and Schatzie finally came over to see the place… was kewl to finally be able to show them. One of the challenges of SL is trying to connect with people in all different time zones, but we managed it. A quick tour was performed, and then Real Life called my name and I had to depart. That sucked!

Otherwise, things keep on a hoppin’ and happenin’ in SL. Always lots of little additions, lots of people to talk to, and yikes! . . . only one of me to do it? That’s the real travesty of SL.. not enough time to do all that I want.

Been missing having Duncan around as much on SL … *waves at Duncan* … his new job is keeping him very busy. Luckily, I manage to catch up with him every once in a while for a visit.

Okay… gotta run now. I thought it wasn’t much of a blog entry, but I suppose I had more than a couple things to yap about.

Catch ya on the flip side!

It’s Real … I got a picture to prove it!

A quick post before I shuffle my buns off to bed.

Some pictures of the ‘property’ or “The Beach” as it is more commonly referred to.  Nothing fancy yet, but taking shape nicely.

The Beach

The Lagoon

The Beach #2

More beach, more water! More furniture too?

Making changes to the property has been rather slow in happening… life gets in the way (yeah, that’s Real Life aka RL) and my creativity hasn’t been the greatest. Then there’s that nasty little thing called “I don’t wanna work, I just wanna … ” Wait a minute, that’s part of a song ;-)

But seriously, playing in Second Life (SL) can certainly impede the progress of making necessary changes. For the longest time, I have been looking at the property and puzzling over what to do with 6K sq/m of land. It is an awful lot of land. After running the initial beach down one whole side of the property, the rest of the land has kind of sat there, a tropical wasteland, more or less. Sure, it’s been used to fly helicopters, chase people around on, bury a few dead bodies (ooops… forget I said that, okay?) … nonetheless, it was a lot of space, that wasn’t being used in the best way possible.

Today was a day of inspiration, and luckily a day of creativity, and … oh my… it must be a new record… a day where I could concentrate. After consulting with a friend, the decision was made to bring the waterline back a lot farther on the property … to create what might be considered a lagoon. There’s no fish in it yet, but yeah… a lagoon.

Up until two months ago, I had no idea what it meant to terraform in SL… *grin* … probably still don’t, but I do a pretty good job of making a mess and then cleaning it up. As with most things, I’m fairly certain that given enough time, and enough messes, my messes might not be so big. Yup, anyways… I don’t know how much time I spent raising land, flattening land, smoothing land, flattening it again.. but the lagoon has been added. A few other minor adjustments, as well, including moving the dock and diving board, but that wasn’t so bad …. ensured that the water under the diving board was deep enough that I wouldn’t have to provide any first aid attention to anyone. *chuckle* Don’t want no bonked heads on my property! I’ve been tweaking out a few other things, including a little jutty or point on the one corner of the beach… in the perfect place to drop a blanket and lay and watch the sun rise and set. Woot! It is coming together.

Other things accomplished for the day? Well… I’ve been promising myself that I would get more furniture and better furniture. I must be a fuss-assed woman, ‘cuz it seems I can never quite find what I want. Can’t build it either. Heck… couldn’t even tell anyone what it is, ‘cept I know it when I see it… or at least I know it for that moment in time. (Woman’s prerogative to change her mind at a moment’s notice, you know!) … Anyways… did manage to pick some up. New stuff for the main floor, and some nice lounging stuff for upstairs.

All in all, a good day. Maybe, eventually, I’ll get my sorry act together and take a pic to post to the page, so people can see how it’s coming along.

Catch ya on the flip side.

PS.  Wanna know what finally stopped me from working more on furniture and terraforming?  I’ll give you three guesses?  Yup… Second Life crashed on me.  I took it as a message it was time to quit.  Long live Linden Labs!
